Throughout the club year - September to May - there is a salon every month for a total of nine. For each salon, members can submit a maximum of four images in each of two competition types:  Digital and Print.

Competition Types

Digital -
Members can submit up to 4 digital image files using this website during the open submission period prior to the  salon event. Judges review digital submissions prior to the meeting and present their scoring and comments live. There are 6 image categories (see details below) and members can submit a maximum of 2 in any one category. images must have been captured within the last 24 months.
  Print -
Members can bring up to 2 color and 2 black and white mounted prints to the salon event. There are 4 print categories (see details below) and members can enter a maximum of 2 in any one category. At the event, the judge reviews all prints and provides a score and feedback on the spot. Images for prints must have been captured within the last 24 months.


DIGITAL Competition Categories

Assigned Topic (AS)
There is a different assigned topic for every competition. The dominant feature in each photo must align with the topic for that month.  View assigned topics for 2024-25

Club Choice (CC)
Three predetermined topics that repeatedly cycle throughout the club year: 

  1. PSA Monochrome – Black and white, sepia, etc. See  PSA Monochrome Definition for detailed requirements (scroll down to Monochrome).
  2. Scapes – Primary subject must be a landscape, seascape or cityscape.
  3. Macro or Close Up - Primary subject must be photographed up close. Special equipment is not needed (macro lens, close up filter, etc.) but may be beneficial.

Nature Avian (NA)
A bird or birds must be the primary subject. Minimal editing permitted and no man made artifacts/elements can be visible.

Nature Non-Avian (NN)
Primary subjects can be nature landscapes or wild animals (except birds). Minimal editing permitted and no man made artifacts/elements can be visible.

Open Avian (OA)
A bird or birds must be the primary subject. More extensive editing is allowed (cloning, HDR, moving/removing objects, etc.) and man made artifacts/elements can be visible. 

Open Non-Avian (ON)
Images of any subject (except birds).  More extensive editing is allowed (cloning, HDR, moving/removing objects, etc.) and man made artifacts/elements can be visible.

PRINT Competition Categories

Color Avian
A color print and a bird or birds must be the primary subject.

Black and White Avian
A black and white print and a bird or birds must be the primary subject.

Color Non-Avian
A color print of any subject other than birds.

Black and White Non-Avian
A black and white print of any subject other than birds.

Extensive editing of the image for any print category is allowed.

Members must fill out an entry slip for each print and attach the slip to the back of each print.  The slip will identify the title, the maker, the category for which the print is being entered and the date of the image capture(s) used to make the print.  Please print out the Print Salon Entry Slip PDF file  for you to create print slips for your use.
